Modern technologies often employ a “fit-to-standard” approach to implement change. This makes sense when best practices are well understood and consistent, as it’s logical to start with this assumption and adjust as needed. However, there are two important considerations that are frequently overlooked:

  1. Increased Business Change:   A fit-to-standard approach often results in more significant business change, requiring a more robust change preparedness strategy.

  2. Risk of Misalignment:  There's an inherent risk in the disconnect between what the solution provides and the value the business can derive from it. Additionally, since the fit-to-standard method typically defines the solution first and then adapts the business to fit, connection issues often surface later in the program, with pressure to compromise quality.
